Kenya's protected areas run on daily conservation fees. National parks — Amboseli, Tsavo, Nakuru, Nairobi — are managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service under one gazetted tariff. The Masai Mara is different: it's a national reserve managed by Narok County with its own fee schedule, which is why Mara figures move independently of KWS parks. Conservancies differ again — their per night fees are bundled into your accommodation rate and flow to land‑owning families.
The practical consequence: a multi‑park itinerary stacks different fee regimes, which is why two quotes for 'the same' seven days can differ by hundreds of dollars depending on how many 24‑hour blocks each operator books. Always check whether fees are included — ours are.
