2.How the system works
Per Person, Per Day, Per Park
Kenya's protected areas run on daily conservation fees. National parks — Amboseli, Tsavo, Nakuru, Nairobi — are managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service under one gazetted tariff. The Masai Mara is different: it's a national reserve managed by Narok County with its own fee schedule, which is why Mara figures move independently of KWS parks. Conservancies differ again — their per-night fees are included in your accommodation rate and go directly to land‑owning families.
The practical consequence: a multi-park itinerary stacks different fee regimes, which is why two quotes for 'the same' seven days can differ by hundreds of dollars depending on how many 24-hour blocks each operator books. Always check whether fees are included — ours are.
