Maasai Mara National Reserve Day Tour with Optional Maasai Village Visit

This starts before sunrise — a very early pick-up from your Nairobi hotel, residence or airport area gives you maximum hours in the Mara. As dawn breaks over the road to the west, your guide will brief you on the day ahead while the scenery unfolds through farmland and sweeping sections of the Great Rift Valley route.

Arrive at the Maasai Mara National Reserve and head out across the open savannah on a guided game drive through Kenya's most storied wildlife arena — celebrated above all for big cats, sweeping landscapes and, in season, the dramatic wildebeest migration.

Lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, antelope and hyenas are all likely in a single day here, with birdlife filling the spaces in between. Throughout, your guide decodes the behaviour unfolding around you, turning sightings into stories.

Pause for lunch at a suitable restaurant, lodge area or agreed stop along the day's route — time to refuel and compare notes on the morning's sightings. Meals and drinks are settled directly unless otherwise stated in your chosen option.

If time allows, an optional Maasai village visit adds a human dimension to the day: traditional dances, a glimpse of homestead life, handmade beadwork and the living story of the community after which the Maasai Mara is named. Any village fees are payable directly unless included in your chosen option.

When the day's final sighting is behind you, settle in for the return drive to Nairobi, watching the savanna hand the horizon back to the city lights. You will be dropped off at your hotel, residence or preferred central point late in the evening, depending on traffic and routing.
