Itinerary

Day 1

1 Nairobi to Samburu via Nanyuki with an evening game drive Open

Set off early from Nairobi and travel north through the highlands past Nanyuki, watching Kenya transform from green farmland into the rugged, sun‑baked wilderness of Samburu National Reserve — a wilder, quieter corner of the safari map.

After checking in at your lodge, head out as the heat eases for an evening game drive. This is the realm of species you’ll find almost nowhere else — the finely striped Grevy’s zebra, the reticulated giraffe with its crisp geometric coat and the desert‑adapted oryx — all illuminated by a sunset that turns the whole reserve amber.

Day 2

1 Full-day exploration of Samburu National Reserve Open

Spend a full day at Samburu National Reserve with morning and afternoon game drives, and set yourself a worthy goal: the 'Samburu Special Five' — Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and beisa oryx — found here and in few other parts of Kenya. Elephants and lions occupy the same dramatic, arid stage.

Between drives, relax at your lodge during the heat of the day. Birdlife is abundant along the river margins, the light is a photographer's gift, and optional bush walks may be offered for those who want to experience the wilderness at ground level.

Day 3

1 Journey to the Aberdares & Evening Wildlife Viewing Open

After a relaxed breakfast, turn south through Nanyuki and climb into an entirely different Kenya: the cool, misty mountains and deep forests of Aberdare National Park — a hushed green world after Samburu's dry heat.

From the unique vantage of your lodge, the evening's wildlife viewing comes to you. Watch the forest edge for bushbuck, the secretive leopard and — for the truly fortunate — the rare mountain bongo, one of Africa's most elusive antelope. Optional guided nature walks are offered at select lodges.

Day 4

1 Aberdare to Lake Nakuru through Nyahururu & Afternoon Game Drive Open

Leave the mountains after an early breakfast and descend via Nyahururu, pausing at the famous Thomson's Falls en route, before continuing through the central highlands to Lake Nakuru National Park.

The afternoon game drive circles the alkaline lake that made this park famous — flamingos gather here in large numbers when conditions are right, and Nakuru is one of the most reliable places in Kenya to see both black and white rhino. Lions, buffalo and the endangered Rothschild's giraffe complete the line-up, and dedicated birdwatching excursions can be organised on request.

Day 5

1 Lake Nakuru to the Maasai Mara via Narok and Evening Game Drive Open

An early breakfast, then westwards across the Rift Valley floor and through Narok, the bustling market town that serves as the gateway to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The roadside scenes – herdsmen with their cattle, busy markets, red-robed Maasai – are a moving portrait of Kenyan life.

You arrive in the afternoon in time for your first game drive across the celebrated Mara plains, where big cats and elephants top the bill and the supporting cast numbers in the thousands. Optional Maasai cultural visits can be arranged at the lodge for a deeper connection to this storied land.

Day 6

1 Full-day safari in the Maasai Mara with lodge lunch Open

Today the Maasai Mara is yours from dawn to dusk. The early drive seeks the reserve's greatest prizes — the Big Five, and in season the Great Migration, when wildebeest and zebra by the hundreds of thousands sweep across the plains and, at the right moment, take on the crocodile-patrolled rivers.

Return to the lodge for a freshly prepared lunch, then set out again for the afternoon game. An optional hot-air balloon flight reveals the Mara from above, and evening sundowners round off the day the classic safari way — a cool drink in hand as the sun sinks into the grass.

Day 7

1 Farewell Breakfast & Return Drive back to Nairobi Open

Enjoy a final breakfast in the heart of the Maasai Mara — the plains going about their morning around you — before checking out and beginning the comfortable drive back across the Rift Valley to Nairobi.

You will arrive in the city by the afternoon, concluding a seven-day circuit that ran from Samburu's arid north to Aberdare's cloud forests, Nakuru's rhinos and the Mara's big cats. Optional airport transfers can be arranged in advance to connect smoothly with your onward plans.
