10-Day Honeymoon: Bush and Beach in One Trip

The classic Kenya honeymoon splits ten days into two acts: safari’s early alarms and champagne dawns first, then the Indian Ocean’s lie‑ins to close. The day‑by‑day shape, why the order matters, and the routes that run it.

1.The 10-day itinerary

tips_and_updates Quick facts

  • favorite Proven split: 4–5 nights on safari first, then 4–5 nights on the coast to finish.
  • wb_twilight Order matters: 5:30am game-drive alarms belong before lie-ins, not after.
  • flight Bush to beach — a short domestic hop: no border crossings, no long transfer days.
  • calendar_month Golden windows: June–October and January–March; October shoulder weeks offer the quiet bargain.
  • cake Treat everywhere like your honeymoon — lodges frequently upgrade and surprise newlyweds.

2.Act One: Safari Days

Days One to Five – Dust, Dawns and Champagne

Land in Nairobi, sleep off the flight and head for big-cat country. Whether the safari half runs across the plains of the Mara or pairs Amboseli's elephants with Tsavo's red-earth wilderness, the rhythm is the same: dawn drives while the light is honey, long lazy lunches and sundowners arranged for exactly two. Build one indulgence into the middle days – a balloon at dawn, a private bush dinner, a couples' massage with a waterhole view – and leave the final safari evening unscheduled; camps often produce their own kind of magic for honeymooners.

The full planning playbook – budgets, best months, what to pre-book – lives in our Kenya honeymoon planning guide; this itinerary is the ten-day version in motion.

3.Act Two: Coastal Days

Days Six to Ten – Salt, Sand and Nothing Scheduled

A short hop east and the trip changes key entirely: barefoot check-in, a room with the ocean in it, and five days measured in tides rather than game drives. Diani is the classic honeymoon beach — powder-fine sand, forest monkeys, dhow sunsets — and our Diani things-to-do guide covers the days you feel like moving. Snorkel one morning, take the dhow one evening, and guard the rest of the diary fiercely: the second act's whole job is recovery.

Torn between shores? Our Diani vs Zanzibar comparison puts it plainly — short version: Diani keeps everything familiar and effortless; Zanzibar adds a passport stamp and Stone Town's atmosphere, at the expense of simplicity.

Book the safari half around your non-negotiables (migration season? Kili views?) and leave the beach half flexible — coastal hotels will hold rooms longer than safari camps, and that flexibility often secures a better room. Couples' rooms with bathtubs exist at surprisingly few camps: if that matters, say so on enquiry.

6.10-Day Honeymoon FAQs

Safari first, or the beach first? expand_more

Safari first, almost always — early alarms are easier before the beach routine sets in, and the sea is a better place to process what you've seen. Only reverse that if you arrive exhausted from the wedding itself.

Could we make it a 12-day itinerary instead? expand_more

Perfectly timed — the extra two days go to the safari half (a conservancy stay) or a Lamu add-on. Ten days hits the sweet spot; twelve is the luxury option.

Is the transfer from the bush to the beach tiring? expand_more

No - it's the easiest travel day of the trip. Morning game drive, a midday hop, feet in the sea by sunset.

What about honeymoon perks? expand_more

Many lodges offer extras in the months following the wedding — a copy of the certificate when you book unlocks them. We will ask on your behalf.
