10-Day Honeymoon: Bush and Beach in One Trip

The classic Kenya honeymoon divides ten days into two acts: early wakeups on safari and champagne sunrises first, then lazy mornings beside the Indian Ocean to finish. The day‑by‑day itinerary, why the order matters, and the routes that offer it.

1.The 10-day itinerary

tips_and_updates Quick facts

  • favorite Proven split: 4–5 nights on safari first, then 4–5 nights on the coast to finish.
  • wb_twilight Order matters: 5:30am game-drive alarms belong before lie-ins, not after.
  • flight Bush to beach — a short domestic hop: no border crossings, no long transfers.
  • calendar_month Golden windows: June–October and January–March; October shoulder weeks are the quiet bargain.
  • cake Make everywhere feel like your honeymoon — lodges often upgrade and surprise honeymooners.

2.Act One: Safari Days

Days One to Five — Dust, Dawns and Champagne

Touch down in Nairobi, sleep off the flight and head into big-cat country. Whether the safari half runs across the Mara's plains or pairs Amboseli's elephants with Tsavo's red-earth wilderness, the rhythm is the same: dawn drives while the light is honey, long lazy lunches and sundowners made for two. Include one indulgence in the middle days — a dawn balloon, a private bush dinner, a couples' massage overlooking a waterhole — and keep the final safari evening free; camps often create their own little magic for honeymooners.

The full planning playbook — budgets, best months, and what to pre-book — is in our Kenya honeymoon planning guide; this itinerary is the ten-day version in motion.

3.Act Two: Coastal Days

Days Six to Ten — Salt, Sand and No Set Itinerary

A short hop east and the trip flips completely: barefoot check-in, a room with the ocean in it, and five days measured by the tides rather than game drives. Diani is the classic honeymoon beach — soft powder sand, forest monkeys, dhow sunsets — and our Diani things-to-do guide covers the days you want to get moving. Snorkel one morning, take a dhow one evening, and protect the rest of the diary fiercely: the second act exists for recovery.

Torn between shores? Our Diani vs Zanzibar comparison gives the straight answer — short version: Diani keeps things domestic and effortless; Zanzibar adds a passport stamp and Stone Town's atmosphere but makes things less simple.

Book the safari half around your non-negotiables (migration season? Kili views?) and let the beach half remain flexible — coastal hotels will hold rooms longer than safari camps, and that flexibility often results in a better room. Couples' rooms with bathtubs are surprisingly rare at camps: if it's important, mention it in your enquiry.

6.10-Day Honeymoon FAQs

Safari first or beach first? expand_more

Safari first, almost always — early alarms are easier before the beach rhythm sets in, and the ocean is the best place to process what you've seen. Reverse it only if you arrive exhausted from the wedding itself.

Can we change it to a 12-day itinerary instead? expand_more

Perfectly timed — the extra two days go to the safari half (a conservancy stay) or a Lamu add-on. Ten days is the sweet spot; twelve is the luxury option.

Is the bush-to-beach transfer tiring? expand_more

No - it's the easiest travel day of the trip. Morning game drive, a midday hop, feet in the ocean by sunset.

What honeymoon perks are available? expand_more

Many lodges offer extras in the months after the wedding — a copy of the certificate at booking unlocks them. We’ll do the asking for you.
