July carries an electricity no other month matches. Radio calls track wildebeest columns by the tens of thousands; camps hum with arrival energy; and the Mara's cool grey mornings break into brilliant days scented with dust and trampled grass. One million visitors arrive
The herds move in from the south in pulses - some years in early July, others later - and with them arrive the spectacles: hunting lions grown bold from abundance, crocodiles at crossing points stirring after long patience, cheetahs operating at the fringes. Even before the wildebeest mass, resident viewing in July is superb; once they arrive, the plains simply become the greatest wildlife theatre on Earth.
