July has an electricity no other month matches. Radio calls track wildebeest columns by the tens of thousands; camps hum with arrival energy; and the Mara's cool grey mornings crack open into brilliant days perfumed with dust and trampled grass. This is the Kenya of the documentaries, playing live - with the audience to match. Plan for company at the famous sightings, and for a landscape big enough to lose them in.
3.Wildlife in July
A million guests arrive
The herds enter from the south in pulses - some years early July, some late - and with them come the spectacles: hunting lions grown bold on abundance, crossing-point crocodiles stirring from patience, cheetahs working the fringes. Even before the wildebeest mass, July's resident viewing is superb; once they arrive, the plains simply become the greatest wildlife theatre on Earth.
