The fastest way into Kenya's most storied wildlife arena: a scheduled dawn flight from Nairobi Wilson Airport carries you over the Great Rift Valley and onto a Maasai Mara airstrip in around 45 to 60 minutes — the road trip's five hours each way become a short scenic hop. A safari 4x4 meets the aircraft, and you have roughly seven hours inside the reserve: a long morning game drive when predators are at their most active, a picnic lunch in the bush, and an afternoon sweep of the plains on the way back to the airstrip. Lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, cheetah and huge herds of plains game are often seen, and between July and October the wildebeest migration is frequently in residence — though every sighting is wild and never guaranteed. The late-afternoon flight has you back at Wilson by early evening. Reserve entrance fees, return scheduled flights, airstrip game drives, picnic lunch and Nairobi hotel transfers are all included. Luggage on safari flights is limited to 15 kg per person in soft bags.
