Itinerary
Day 1
1 Nairobi to Aberdare National Park and Evening Wildlife Viewing Open
Head north out of Nairobi into Kenya's green central highlands, where tea and coffee plantations give way to the mist-wrapped ridges of Aberdare National Park. Your lodge here is ideally placed for game viewing close at hand — settle in and let the wilderness come to you.
As evening falls, set out to explore the park's high montane forest, a world apart from the classic savannah. Elephants are often seen in the clearings, leopards move unseen through the trees, and the birdlife at this altitude is exceptional — a moody, atmospheric start to your safari.
Day 2
1 Transfer to Samburu — Equator Crossing and Afternoon Game Drive Open
Today you cross a line most people only ever see on maps: travelling north from the Aberdares, you cross the Equator itself as the landscape shifts from lush highlands to the semi‑arid savanna and riverine forest of Samburu National Reserve.
Once settled in your lodge, set out on an afternoon game drive in search of northern Kenya's signature species — the finely striped Grevy's zebra, the strikingly patterned reticulated giraffe and the Somali ostrich, rarities not encountered on the southern safari circuit.
Day 3
1 Full Day of Game Drives in Samburu Open
With a full day in Samburu National Reserve, you can go further than most visitors do. Morning and afternoon game drives explore both the shady riverine forest along the Ewaso Nyiro river and the acacia-dotted plains beyond, each habitat sheltering its own cast of characters.
Watch for the beisa oryx with its rapier-straight horns and the gerenuk, the antelope that stands on its hind legs to browse the treetops, alongside elephants, lions and a spectacular variety of birds. The mix of red earth, doum palms and dramatic light makes Samburu one of Kenya's most rewarding places for photography.
Day 4
1 Sunrise Game Drive and Return to Nairobi Open
Save one last sunrise for Samburu. On an early game drive the reserve is at its most alive — the night's stories written in tracks across the red earth, herds moving through golden light, and always the chance of predators still out from their nighttime hunt.
After breakfast, check out and settle in for the scenic drive south, re-crossing the Equator on your way back to Nairobi, where your journey through the Aberdare highlands and Samburu's wild north comes to a close.
