Day 1

Into the Wild: Nairobi to the Maasai Mara

Into the Wild: Nairobi to Maasai Mara.

Ten days in Kenya begin with one of its great drives: out of Nairobi and along the rim of the Great Rift Valley, where the escarpment views set the scale for everything ahead, then on to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Check in to your safari lodge and feel the pace of the bush take over.

The afternoon belongs to your first game drive across the Mara's rolling plains, where elephants, lions and giraffes are often seen against a spectacular savannah backdrop. Your guide begins unpacking the ecosystem's rhythms and behaviours — knowledge that will sharpen every sighting for the rest of your safari.

Day 2

Big Five Safari: Full day in the Maasai Mara

Lions of a pride lounging on a sunlit rock beside a safari vehicle in the golden grasslands of Maasai Mara National Reserve

Big Five Safari: Full Day in Maasai Mara.

Be rolling at first light, when the Maasai Mara is at its rawest — predators finishing the night's business, antelope alert in the cool air, birdlife everywhere. These are prime hours for the Big Five: lion, elephant, leopard, rhino and buffalo. Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast and a midday break.

The afternoon drive pushes into new corners of the reserve for fresh sightings and behaviour. For a once-in-a-lifetime perspective, an optional hot-air balloon safari with a bush breakfast can be added (at extra cost) — the Mara unrolling silently beneath you at dawn. Evenings finish the traditional way: campfire, stars and stories.

Day 3

Rift Valley Lakes — Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru

Rift Valley Lakes: Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru.

After breakfast, leave the Mara and cross the Great Rift Valley to reach Lake Nakuru National Park by midday. Framed by acacia woodland and dramatic escarpments, this UNESCO-listed lake is famous for the flamingos that gather on its alkaline waters. Settle in over lunch — wildlife often drifts past within sight of the lodge.

The afternoon game drive brings Nakuru's specialities into focus: white rhinos grazing the lakeshore flats, rare Rothschild's giraffes browsing the woodland, and a bird list of more than 400 recorded species. It is a birder's paradise, a photographer's playground, and a complete change of scene from the open savannah.

Day 4

Wetland Wonders — Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha

Wetland Wonders: Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha.

A short morning drive brings you to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater jewel set among volcanic landscapes. Board a guided boat safari and glide across calm waters where pods of hippos surface and snort, fish eagles patrol overhead, and water birds crowd the fringes — while your boat skipper shares the lake's ecology and history.

The rest of the day is deliberately unhurried: relax at your lakeside accommodation, stroll the gardens with binoculars in hand, or choose a nature walk or a visit to Crescent Island, where giraffe and antelope graze remarkably close. A tranquil interlude midway through your safari.

Day 5

Kilimanjaro views — Lake Naivasha to Amboseli

Kilimanjaro Views: Lake Naivasha to Amboseli.

Travel south through rural villages and open farmland to Amboseli National Park, where — on clear days — the snowcapped bulk of Mount Kilimanjaro fills the horizon. Check in to your eco-friendly lodge and enjoy lunch with Africa's highest peak as a backdrop; this is the park that made elephants beneath Kilimanjaro the definitive safari image.

In the afternoon, drive out across the park's wide salt pans, swamps and acacia woodland in search of elephants, zebras and the predators that follow them. As the sun sets behind the mountain, you'll understand why photographers linger in Amboseli long after the light has gone.

Day 6

Land of Giants: Full Day Safari in Amboseli

Two African elephants on a green Amboseli plain with snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro and dramatic clouds behind them

Land of Giants: Full Day in Amboseli.

Amboseli has earned its reputation as a land of giants, and today you'll spend a full day among them. Aim to rise for sunrise if you can, when elephant families move through golden light with Kilimanjaro towering behind. Climb Observation Hill for a sweeping panorama across wetlands and plains stretching toward Tanzania — the whole park at your feet.

Enjoy an afternoon at leisure or return to the wildlife, then finish the day with a classic sundowner — drink in hand, the sun sliding down behind Africa's highest mountain. Few evenings anywhere compare.

Day 7

Safari to Sea: Amboseli to Diani Beach

Safari to Sea: Amboseli to Diani Beach.

Swap dust for sea air: today you travel from Amboseli to Diani Beach on Kenya's south coast, by scenic flight or road transfer. Arrive at your seafront resort, where fine white sand meets the turquoise Indian Ocean beneath a row of leaning palms.

The afternoon asks nothing of you — swim in the warm sea, bask in the sun, or walk the tideline — as your journey shifts from safari adventure to pure coastal relaxation.

Day 8

Coastal Escape: Full Day at Diani Beach

Coastal Escape: Full day at Diani Beach.

Spend a whole day at Diani Beach, regularly ranked among Africa's finest stretches of coastline. Swim in warm sea water, laze on the wide white sand, or explore beneath the surface with optional snorkelling or diving trips over the coral reefs, where the marine life is as colourful as the safari was wild.

The options keep coming: optional spa treatments for deep relaxation, a Swahili cooking class to sample coastal culture, or windsurfing and paddleboarding for the active. However you spend it, Diani rewards every version of a perfect beach day.

Day 9

Ocean Adventures: Full Day at Diani Beach

Ocean Adventures: Full Day on Diani Beach.

Your second full coastal day reveals Diani's quieter corners. Optional excursions include Shimba Hills National Reserve, a verdant wildlife haven just inland, or the sacred Kaya Kinondo forest, where guides share traditions preserved beneath ancient trees. On the water, boat trips head out to spot dolphins, and snorkelling goes deeper for those wanting more of the reef.

As the light fades, indulge in an optional sunset dinner on the beach or signature cocktails at your resort, watching the sky melt into pastels over the Indian Ocean — a fitting finale to the journey.

Day 10

Back to Nairobi: Farewell to Kenya

Return to Nairobi: Farewell to Kenya.

Take the final morning slowly: one more swim at Diani Beach, a barefoot stroll along the shoreline, or simply a coffee with the sound of the sea while your bags wait. Kenya rarely lets anyone depart without one last perfect hour.

Then transfer to the airport for your flight, or make your way back to Nairobi, carrying ten days of savannah plains, Rift Valley lakes, elephants beneath Kilimanjaro and Indian Ocean sunsets. The safari ends here — the stories are only just beginning.
