Bush in week one, barefoot on the Indian Ocean by week two — a Kenyan honeymoon is a rare trip that delivers both adventure and relaxation without a second flight abroad. How to structure it, when to travel, what romance actually costs, and the small touches worth arranging beforehand.
tips_and_updates Quick facts
Two holidays, one country, no third flight
Most honeymoon destinations make you choose: adventure or rest, spectacle or stillness. Kenya's geography refuses the choice. The Masai Mara delivers mornings of lion and champagne sunrises; forty minutes of flying later the Indian Ocean delivers barefoot dinners and days measured in tides. No border crossings, no long‑haul connections mid‑trip, no repacking strategy — just one country that happens to contain both halves of a perfect fortnight.
The rhythm matters more than couples expect. Safari is gloriously unrestful — 06:00 starts, adrenaline, dust — and doing it first means the beach week lands exactly when you need it.
What to arrange in advance and what happens on its own
Some moments need booking: a dawn balloon flight with a private breakfast on landing, a bush dinner by lantern light, a couples' massage overlooking a waterhole, the private vehicle that lets you linger at a leopard for as long as you like. These tend to fill quickly in peak season and are usually cheaper when arranged with the trip than bought on arrival.
The rest arranges itself. Sundowners on a kopje, a pride of lions at first light, the particular silence of the plains at dusk — Kenya's romance is largely atmospheric. Your job is to leave gaps in the itinerary big enough for it to happen.

What each tier actually gets you
A mid-range honeymoon - comfortable tented camps, a beach boutique, all fees and transfers - costs around US$3,500–5,000 per couple for ten days. Premium options with conservancy camps, a balloon flight and a seafront suite reach US$6,000–8,000. Beyond that is the exclusive tier: private conservancies, villa-with-chef beach stays, helicopter transfers - lovely, and entirely optional.
Where to spend if you must choose: pick the safari camp over the beach hotel, the private vehicle over the suite upgrade, and one unforgettable extra - usually the balloon - rather than several small additions.

“A leopard at breakfast on day two, and by day nine we were snorkelling before lunch and asleep in a hammock afterwards — the best decision of the whole wedding.”
Safari first, almost always — early mornings are easier before beach mode sets in, and the coast is the better place to unwind. Reverse the order only if you arrive exhausted from the wedding itself.
It can be – a private vehicle and guide are the single best honeymoon upgrade. Small camps also keep communal dining optional; tell us your preference and we'll match the camp style.
Easily — it's a short international hop and brings the atmosphere of Stone Town. Diani keeps everything local and simpler; Zanzibar adds a touch and a proper vibe. Both are genuinely excellent.
Many lodges offer honeymoon rates or extras within 6–12 months of the wedding — a copy of the marriage certificate when booking unlocks them. We'll handle the request.
