Dry season at its purest
By February the land has been drying for months and Kenya is at its most classically 'safari': golden grass, dust devils, acacias in silhouette and heat that builds to dramatic 33°C afternoons. Skies stay cloudless for days at a stretch - which is why February offers the best chance in the calendar of seeing Mount Kilimanjaro whole, snow to its base, from an Amboseli dawn.

Dry-season game viewing is about concentration: as seasonal pools disappear, everything that drinks must come to permanent water, and predators set ambushes accordingly. Riverine drives in the Mara and waterhole stakeouts in Tsavo richly reward patience.
