Hell's Gate, Lake Naivasha Boat Ride & Crescent Island Walking Safari Day Tour

An early pickup from your Nairobi hotel, residence, or an agreed central meeting point buys time for all three stops. The drive northwest takes about two hours, with a pause at a Great Rift Valley viewpoint on the escarpment's edge.

Explore Hell's Gate National Park on foot or by rented bicycle — zebra, giraffe, buffalo, warthog and antelope are often seen grazing beneath the volcanic cliffs, and the plains hold no resident predator prides, which is what makes walking and cycling possible here. Take in the famous rock towers, then descend into the sculpted Ol Njorowa gorge with your guide. Bicycle rental at the gate is paid directly.

A lunch stop in Naivasha town or by the lake — meals and drinks are paid for directly unless stated in your selected option — before the afternoon's water-and-walking double bill.

Cruise Lake Naivasha by guided boat, life jackets provided: hippo pods surfacing among the papyrus, fish eagles diving for their catch, and pelicans, cormorants and kingfishers working the shallows. The boat finishes at the Crescent Island landing.

Step ashore on Crescent Island Game Sanctuary for a guided walking safari unlike anything else on the circuit: giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, waterbuck and gazelle graze in the open, and with no predators on the island you walk among them — unfenced, on foot, at a respectful distance set by your guide. They are wild animals and keep their own comfort zones, but close, quiet encounters are frequent. Sanctuary fees and the resident guide are included.

The boat returns you to the mainland for the drive back up the escarpment, reaching Nairobi in the evening, traffic permitting. You will be dropped at your hotel, residence, or preferred central point.
