Itinerary
Day 1
1 Nairobi to Maasai Mara via the Great Rift Valley with a sunset game drive Open
Leave Nairobi and watch the ground fall away at the rim of the Great Rift Valley — a scar in the earth’s crust carved over millions of years, unfurling in haze-blue layers beneath the escarpment road. The drive west is a spectacular journey in itself, ending in the storied grasslands of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
After check-in at your full-board camp or lodge, head out as the heat fades for your first game drive. Evening is when the Mara stirs — the hour lions rouse and elephants head for water — and the golden light flatters every photograph. All of the Big Five live here, and your search begins tonight.
Day 2
1 Full-day Maasai Mara game drive with picnic lunch Open
This is the day the Mara takes your full attention: from morning until late afternoon you’ll be out across its open plains and river valleys, with a packed picnic lunch so no time is lost returning to camp. Your guide reads the grasslands as you go — herds of wildebeest and zebra, and with patience the hunters that follow them, cheetah and leopard among the possible sightings.
Long hours in the reserve give you the best odds of witnessing the raw drama the Maasai Mara is famous for — a chase across open ground, a river of grazing animals, a lion pride at rest in the grass. This is classic safari at its purest, absorbing for first-timers, families and seasoned wildlife photographers alike.
Day 3
1 Optional Maasai Village Visit and Return to Nairobi Open
After an early breakfast, begin the unhurried journey back to Nairobi — with one memorable option first. An optional visit to a Maasai village introduces you to the people whose land this is: watch traditional dances, learn how the Maasai live, and browse handmade beadwork and crafts made by the villagers themselves.
Then it’s back through the Rift Valley scenery to Nairobi, arriving with full memory cards and the sort of stories that turn one safari into the first of many.
