Itinerary

Day 1

1 Into the Wild: Nairobi to the Maasai Mara Open

Ten days of Kenya begin with one of its great drives: out of Nairobi and along the rim of the Great Rift Valley, where the escarpment views set the scale for everything ahead, then on to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Check into your safari lodge and feel the pace of the bush take over.

The afternoon belongs to your first game drive across the Mara's rolling plains, where elephants, lions and giraffes are often seen against a spectacular savannah backdrop. Your guide begins unpacking the ecosystem's rhythms and behaviours — knowledge that will sharpen every sighting for the rest of your safari.

Day 2

1 Big Five Safari: Full-day Safari in the Maasai Mara Open

Be rolling at first light, when the Maasai Mara is at its rawest — predators finishing the night's business, antelope alert in the cool air, birdlife everywhere. These are prime hours for the Big Five: lion, elephant, leopard, rhino and buffalo. Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast and a midday pause.

The afternoon drive pushes into new corners of the reserve for fresh sightings and behaviour. For a once-in-a-lifetime angle, an optional hot air balloon safari with a bush breakfast can be added (additional cost) — the Mara unrolling silently beneath you at dawn. Evenings end the traditional way: campfire, stars and stories.

Day 3

1 Rift Valley Lakes: Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru Open

After breakfast, leave the Mara and cross the Great Rift Valley to reach Lake Nakuru National Park by midday. Framed by acacia woodland and dramatic escarpments, this UNESCO-listed lake is famous for the flamingos that gather on its alkaline waters. Enjoy lunch at the lodge — wildlife often drifts past within sight.

The afternoon game drive highlights Nakuru's specialities: white rhinos grazing the lakeshore flats, rare Rothschild's giraffes browsing the woodland, and a bird list of more than 400 recorded species. It's a birdwatcher's paradise, a photographer's playground and a refreshing change from the open savanna.

Day 4

1 Wetland Wonders: From Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha Open

A short morning drive brings you to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater jewel set among volcanic landscapes. Board a guided boat safari and glide across calm water where pods of hippos surface and snort, fish eagles circle overhead, and water birds crowd the edges — while your boat captain shares the lake's ecology and history.

The rest of the day is intentionally unhurried: relax at your lakeside accommodation, wander the gardens with binoculars in hand, or choose a nature walk or a visit to Crescent Island, where giraffe and antelope graze surprisingly close. A peaceful interlude in the middle of your safari.

Day 5

1 Kilimanjaro Views: From Lake Naivasha to Amboseli Open

Journey south through rural villages and open farmland to Amboseli National Park, where—on clear days—the snowcapped bulk of Mount Kilimanjaro fills the horizon. Check in to your eco-friendly lodge and enjoy lunch with Africa's highest peak as a backdrop; this is the park that made elephants beneath Kilimanjaro the definitive safari image.

In the afternoon, head out among the park's broad salt pans, swamps and acacia woodland in search of elephants, zebras and the predators that stalk them. As the sun sets behind the mountain, you'll appreciate why photographers linger in Amboseli long after the light has faded.

Day 6

1 Land of Giants: Full-Day Safari in Amboseli Open

Amboseli earns its reputation as a land of giants, and today you have a full day among them. Rise for sunrise if you can, when elephant families move through golden light with Kilimanjaro looming behind. Climb Observation Hill for a sweeping panorama across wetlands and plains stretching toward Tanzania — the whole park at your feet.

Spend the afternoon at leisure or back among the wildlife, then close the day with a classic sundowner — drink in hand, sun sliding down behind Africa's highest mountain. Few evenings anywhere compare.

Day 7

1 Safari to Sea: Amboseli to Diani Beach Open

Swap dust for salt air: today you travel from Amboseli to Diani Beach on Kenya's south coast, by scenic flight or road transfer. Arrive at your beachfront resort, where powdery white sand meets the turquoise Indian Ocean beneath a line of leaning palms.

The afternoon asks nothing of you at all — swim in the warm sea, stretch out in the sun, or walk the tide line — as your journey changes key from safari adventure to pure coastal relaxation.

Day 8

1 Coastal Escape: Full Day at Diani Beach Open

Spend a whole day at Diani Beach, regularly ranked among Africa's finest stretches of coastline. Swim in warm Indian Ocean water, relax on the wide white sand, or head beneath the surface with optional snorkelling or diving trips over the coral reefs, where the marine life is as colourful as the safari was wild.

The choices keep coming: optional spa treatments for deep relaxation, a Swahili cooking class for a taste of coastal culture, or windsurfing and paddleboarding for the active. However you fill it, Diani rewards every version of a perfect beach day.

Day 9

1 Ocean Adventures: Full Day at Diani Beach Open

Your second full coastal day opens Diani's back pages. Optional excursions include Shimba Hills National Reserve, a green wildlife haven just inland, or the sacred Kaya Kinondo forest, where guides share traditions kept alive among ancient trees. On the water, boat trips seek out dolphins, and snorkelling goes deeper for anyone wanting more of the reef.

As the light fades, treat yourself to an optional sunset dinner on the beach or signature cocktails at your resort, watching the sky dissolve into pastels over the Indian Ocean — a fitting finale to the journey.

Day 10

1 Return to Nairobi: Farewell to Kenya Open

Keep the final morning slow: one more swim at Diani Beach, a barefoot walk along the shoreline, or simply a coffee with the sound of the ocean while your luggage waits. Kenya rarely lets anyone leave without one last perfect hour.

Then transfer to the airport for your flight, or travel back to Nairobi, carrying ten days of savanna plains, Rift Valley lakes, elephants beneath Kilimanjaro and Indian Ocean sunsets. The safari ends here — the stories are just getting started.
