Animals mostly see a vehicle-shaped blob whatever you wear inside it — the neutral-colour rule is really about dust (which turns white clothes beige by breakfast), heat (dark colours bake), and in some regions tsetse flies, which are drawn to dark blue and black. Camouflage patterns, though, are the one genuine prohibition: military-print clothing is restricted for civilians in Kenya — leave any camo-patterned items at home entirely.
On walking safaris the rules tighten — muted colours genuinely matter when you're the blob — so if your itinerary includes walks, pack your duffel towards olive and khaki.
