1.Why safari and Zanzibar belong together

A safari is glorious and, quietly, tiring: dawn alarms, long drives, sensory overload of the best kind. Zanzibar is the exhale. Short direct flights connect the island to Nairobi and the Tanzanian safari hubs, so you can watch elephants at breakfast and swim in the Indian Ocean before sunset — no long transfers, no wasted day.
The island earns its place on more than convenience. Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage labyrinth of Omani, Swahili and Indian history; the beaches of the north and east rank with any in the world; and the food — grilled seafood, coconut curries, spice-market everything — is a holiday of its own.
2.One night in Stone Town, always
Doorways, rooftops and the night market
Resist the urge to transfer straight to the beach. Stone Town deserves at least one night: get purposefully lost among the carved doors and crumbling coral-stone facades, visit the sobering former slave market beneath the Anglican cathedral, and climb to a rooftop terrace for sunset over a forest of dhow masts. After dark, the Forodhani Gardens night market grills the day's catch under lantern light.
Add a morning spice-farm tour on your way north — clove, vanilla, cardamom and pepper growing within arm's reach, with a guide who'll have you identifying each by scent alone. It's touristy in the best possible way.
